Choosing a pen over a keyboard does wonders for your memory
While typing is obviously the more convenient and faster method of the two, writing still has its charm, and is now considered by some as the superior method. According to the research carried out (проведённое) by University of California and Princeton University, the students who took notes in classes using a pen and paper benefited more in the long term.
Students who typed their notes on laptops just transcribed words directly from source rather than putting the information in their own words. But taking notes in longhand (от руки) allows for better encoding of the information and leads to better performance on tests. Because handwriting notes is a slower process, students are forced to interpret the information and put it into their own words. As a result, they are able to better understand the content. This gives them an advantage in remembering new concepts in the long term (в долгосрочной перспективе).
