“As If” and “As Though”
As if and as though are conjunctions that have similar meanings. They are followed by a clause — a group of words with a subject and a predicate. The structures as if/as though + a clause are used to describe something that is unreal.
Example: He talked to Tom as if he was a child. (Tom is not a child) — Он говорил с Томом как с ребенком.
Example: He acts as though he has never met her. (In fact he knows her) — Он ведет себя так, будто бы не знает ее.
In conversation speakers often use as if and as though after the verbs “to look” and “to feel”.
Example: They felt as though they were told the wrong information. — Они чувствовали себя так, словно им сообщили неверную информацию. (Describes how a situation seems to be.)
