Vladimirskie Gate (Владимирские ворота) of Kitay-Gorod (16th century) and the Chapel of Panteleimon the Healer (Церковь св. Пантелеймона Целителя, 19th century) between Nikolskaya Street and Lubyanskaya Square. Both were demolished in 1934. Photo taken at the end of the 1900s.
The first photos in color appeared in the Russian Empire at the end of the 19th century. Most of them are colorized manually (раскрашены вручную). Sadly, only a handful of (горстка, немного) such snaps have been preserved to this day. These unique pictures managed to document lost monuments, urban architecture and the ordinary life of people throughout the country.
