How to ‘Sell’ Yourself in an Interview (Without Seeming Too Promotional)
BEWARE OF TOO MANY “I’S”
In selling yourself you’ll want to steer clear of (избегать) too many “I” statements (like “I did this” and “I did that”). Of course, to be effective, you’ll want to lay claim to (предъявить, заявить о правах на) accomplishments, but using the first person too much can erode the goodwill of the listener.
To avoid saying “I” too much, find substitutes. For example, say “my role was to help build the sales performance of our group, and we did just that.” Or instead of saying, “I have extensive experience in this area,” say, “My background is a great fit with this role (идеально подходит для этой роли).” Focus on your leadership, too, instead of yourself. If your team accomplished something, say so and show that you led them to success. For example, say, “My team delivered the best results in our division. I’m very proud of them.” Believe us, sometimes it can also influence the interviewer’s decision to hire you or not.
