This Sci-Fi Thriller Has Become the First Russian Show on Netflix Originals
Dystopian Russian drama Better Than Us was premiered on global streaming service Netflix in August 2019.
The first season of the sci-fi thriller (приключенческая фантастика), which imagines a world where androids have taken over many of humanity’s mundane (повседневный) daily tasks, follows a dysfunctional family who became the accidental owners of a cutting-edge robot being hunted (за которым охотятся) by terrorists, global tech firms, and police.
The series isn’t the first Russian offering to appear on the platform, which has already snapped up (быть нарасхват) shows including kids’ cartoon series Masha and the Bear and Russian drama Silver Spoon.
However, it is the first Russian production to appear under the Netflix Originals brand, with the online platform screening the show in 25 languages.
