Strategies for Making a Good First Impression
Attire
Your clothes serve as the ultimate (решающее, основное впечатление) first impression. Your clothes speak about your professionalism before you even have the chance to say one word. A person who arrives at an interview in appropriate attire makes a good impression. The environment dictates the attire. For example, you don’t need polished shoes, a suit jacket and tie and pressed pants (отглаженные брюки) if you’re filling out an application at a local store. A collared shirt and ironed pants will suffice.
Focus
Exuding focus (излучать уверенность, целеустремленность) when you meet someone immediately grabs the other person’s attention. People often think of a confident person as someone who sets goals, understands what he has to do to accomplish (достигнуть) them and sets forth without a fear of making mistakes.
Courtesy
Common courtesy (вежливость), such as smiling and complimenting someone, is required to make a good first impression. Even if the other person is rude, remain friendly. If you disagree with the other person’s opinion, it’s best to avoid confrontation during the first meeting with someone.
