Second Conditional Sentences
if + past simple, …would + infinitive
First, we can use second conditionals (придаточные предложения условия 2-го типа) to talk about things in the future that are probably not going to be true. (События в будущем, которые маловероятны). Maybe we’re imagining some dream, for example.
Example: If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.(I probably won’t win the lottery) — Если бы я выиграл в лотерею, я бы купил большой дом.
Second, we can use 2nd conditionals to talk about something in the present which is impossible, because it’s not true. (Нереальные ситуации в настоящем времени).
Example: If I had his number, I would call him. (I don’t have his number now, so it’s impossible for me to call him). — Если бы у меня был его номер, я бы позвонил ему. (Но у меня нет его номера)
