Have To and Have Got To to Express Necessity and Advice
Have to is often used in any context to express necessity. It can be used in all tense forms.
Examples: 1. She has to study a lot in order to pass the exam. 2. She will have to study a lot in order to pass the exam. — Ей нужно (нужно будет) много заниматься, чтобы сдать экзамен.
Have got to expresses a stronger feeling and is often used in informal speech.
Examples: 1. People have to pay taxes. — Люди должны платить налоги. 2. You’ve got to see this clown! He’s really funny. — Ты обязательно должен увидеть этого клоуна! Он очень смешной.
Have to and must can also be used to express strong advice.
Examples: You must go for a walk with the dog at least once a day! He keeps yipping all day when he’s alone. — Ты обязательно должен гулять с собакой хотя бы раз в день! Пес все время скулит, когда остается один.
